MADISON PARK TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (ROXMAPP)

in partnership with Bunker Hill Community College

RoxMAPP (Roxbury Massachusetts Advanced Post-Secondary Pathways) at Madison Park Technical Vocational High School is an Early College & Dual Enrollment consortium for rising 10th graders to graduating seniors that prepares and supports students for post-secondary success while in high school.

Designated in April of 2019 as an Early College High School, the RoxMAPP Early College High School (RECHS) is a partnership between Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) and Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (MPTVHS). RECHS provides MPTVHS students with free BHCC transferable college courses. RECHS students are able to start enrolling in BHCC courses as early as the 10th grade. The classes count toward MPTVHS graduation requirements as well as college credit. RECHS students have the potential to earn an associate degree from Bunker Hill Community College.

Taneka DeGrace, Director, says curriculum alignment is a strength of the RECHS program. She also believes that supportive relationships are important to the success of students and is also strength of the RECHS program. In the video to the right, Taneka DeGrace, Director, shares how the program benefits students, families and the community.

The Roxbury Early College High School (RECHS) program is open to all students at Madison Park Vocational Technical High School (MPVTHS). While at RECHS, students gain the advanced skills that are expected in today’s workplace. Students in the program can expect a rigorous, yet supportive, learning environment that combines the time it takes to complete high school and the first two years of college. There is no minimum GPA requirement for entry into the program to ensure that prior performance is not a barrier to future success and to provide options to students for whom the traditional high school experience is not a good fit.

Students are required to take the Accuplacer college placement test to determine college course enrollment options and appropriate classes for which a students is eligible. If the student places into college level courses, RECHS students may select introductory college courses in career path “meta-majors,” that align with their MPTVHS Vocational Programs.  RECHS offers pathways in Culinary Arts, Dental Assisting, Design & Visual Communications, Graphic Communications, Health Assisting, Hospitality Management, Information Support Services & Networking, Marketing & Business Technology, Media Arts, Medical Assisting, and  Programming & Web Development.

RoxMAPP Early College High School Student Makes History

Melanie G. Sola, graduate of Madison Park Technical Vocational High School (MPTVHS), recently made history in the Boston Public Schools.  Enrolled in Madison Park’s Early College High School Program, Melanie successfully balanced her academic classes at Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) as well as meet her Cosmetology vocational responsibilities at MPTVHS.

Due to her participation in the RoxMAPP Early College High School Program, Melanie received a high school diploma from Madison Park Technical Vocational High School AND obtained her Liberal Arts Associate Degree from Bunker Hill Community College this spring, becoming the first student in MPTVHS and Boston Public Schools history to do so.

In the fall of 2020, Melanie will be attending Northeastern University to study Civil Engineering.
